Why You Should
and How You Can
Support HONEST NEWS
Local news is in big trouble, as this
analysis of trends makes clear
The loss of local news has implications for democracy. As Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin, co-founders of Indivisible, discuss in We Are Indivisible: A Blueprint for Democracy After Trump, local news increases citizen engagement and transparency and reduces polarization.

But all local news is not equal. High-quality, fact-based reporting on local and regional issues -- that's what needs more support. Which media outlets offer this kind of reporting? Click the state(s) on the map below in which you want to support one or more news outlets. (A printable pdf of these outlets is available below the map.)
If you want to support a news outlet in a state that is not indicated on the map below, an excellent directory of local media outlets by state has been compiled by the Media and Democracy Project. The Project writes: These are real outlets, with real journalists. We have curated every entry on this list, so it does not have hedge fund-owned (like Alden Global Capital) or "pink slime" (fake local) news outlets.
Local National Public Radio stations also serve a valuable role -- find them all listed here.
